An original mixed media portrait on a thick Khadi cotton rag paper, with a lovely deckled edge. A dark painting with a narrative behind it; depicting being owned and having freedom. The lover's eye earring may be alluding to a time when she was free and loved, the eyepatch suggests a great struggle that may have led her to her present fate. The crucifix is a sign of faith, as is her feathered companion. Framed in a simple matt black painted wooden frame and relief mounted on dark grey artists board. Non-reflective glass.
The substrate is highly absorbent which causes the paint to take on a very pleasing matt quality, which in turn makes the portrait seem almost antique. Size approx. 33cm x 43cm. Ready to hang.
